Celebrating 30 Years of Community with You!
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we welcome 2025, I’m thrilled to announce a momentous milestone—VIA CDC’s 30th anniversary! This celebration is especially meaningful to me, not just as the Executive Director of VIA CDC but as someone who grew up in this neighborhood. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the vibrant spirit, resilience, and deep connections that make our community so special.
For the past three decades, VIA CDC has been a steadfast partner in strengthening our neighborhoods. We’ve empowered thousands of families with housing and financial education programs, giving them the tools to achieve stability and build brighter futures. Through our work, we’ve connected neighbors to opportunities, inspiring many to grow into community leaders who now champion change in our city.
Our journey has been enriched by moments of togetherness, like the nearly 550 community events we’ve hosted over the years. The Silver City Fest, our largest event of the year, has brought over 30,000 neighbors together to celebrate the rich diversity of our area. It’s a vibrant reminder of how our collective efforts create a space where everyone belongs.
We’ve also forged meaningful partnerships with local businesses and organizations, working together to ensure that sustainable development benefits everyone in our community. These accomplishments aren’t just VIA CDC’s—they’re a testament to what we can achieve together. As we move through the year, I hope you can celebrate with us.
Here’s to a remarkable year ahead, filled with connection, celebration, and continued progress!
Sincerely,
JoAnna Bautch

OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1995 by the School Sisters of St. Francis (SSSF), VIA’s existence is grounded in the importance of making it so that all people and communities can flourish by having access to the things we all need to thrive. Since our founding, VIA’s work has been rooted on Milwaukee’s near south side on ancestral lands of the Potawatomi, Menomonie and other indigenous people who still live here today. Today most call it the Silver City, Burnham Park and Layton Park neighborhoods. You can learn more about the history & characteristics of our anchor neighborhoods here.
