Home Improvement Matching Grant

VIA CDC’s Home Improvement Matching Grant (HIMG) is designed to support homeowners living in the Silver City, Burnham Park, and Layton Park neighborhoods with a critical home repair project that will improve the quality of their life by diminishing exposure to illness and/or physical harm. The HIMG is reimbursable—meaning you must first complete an approved project to receive a reimbursement. Note your personally identifiable information will NOT be shared. Please allow up to 5 business days for someone to contact you once you have submitted your application.

“TIN” forgivable loan

Income-eligible homeowners living in the WEST BURNHAM PARK/SILVER CITY Targeted Investment Neighborhood (TIN) area may qualify for a $30,000 partially-forgivable loan for home improvements from the City of Milwaukee Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (NIDC).

 

Criteria

  • Up to $15,000 is forgiven after five years, provided that it is equally matched with a 0% interest payback or deferred payment loan.
  • Applicants’ total gross household income must be at or less than 80% of the Milwaukee County Median Income to qualify.

Milwaukee Home Improvement Loans

Emergency & Essential Home Repairs

The City of Milwaukee offers its STRONG Homes Loan Program with loans of up to $20,000 to owner occupants of 1-4 family properties throughout the City of Milwaukee on a first come, first served basis. Technical assistance will be provided to homeowners under the program to assist with rehabilitation projects. 

Great Midwest Bank Home Improvement Loan

Great Midwest Bank offers loans up to $20,000 at rates as low as 1.99% for exterior and interior improvements you make to your property. What a better way to install a new furnace, replace that old porch or install new windows?

Landlord Rental Rehab Program

For landlords, NIDC also offers a rental rehabilitation loan program that offers a $14,999 forgivable loan per unit. Visit the NIDC website for complete details.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS

There are several resources available to assist you in making energy efficiency improvements to your home that will result in lower monthly utility bills and a healthier planet, including: Me2 – This City of Milwaukee Energy Efficiency program offers low-interest loans and incentives to make it affordable to make energy improvements including insulation, air sealing, replacing a furnace, windows and more! Weatherization

This program offers free energy efficiency repairs for income-eligible homeowners. Contact La Casa de Esperanza or the Social Development Commission to learn if you qualify for this resource.

Eligible applicants must first apply for Energy Assistance.

Focus on Energy

This program offers free energy saving products such as compact fluorescent light bulbs as well as rebates for homeowners installing qualified energy efficient heating, cooling, and renewable energy equipment. 

Grow Solar MKE 

Interested in Solar power for your home? Offered by the City of Milwaukee and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, home and business owners throughout Milwaukee county may participate in this program to help pool their buying power to secure significant discounts that make installing solar more affordable. 

No-Cost Home Repair

Neighborhood Improvement Project (NIP)

This resource offers no-cost home repairs for income-eligible homeowners who have lived in their homes for at least five years. These repairs focus on code violations and needed health and safety repairs. To learn more and to apply for the program visit the websites of either the Milwaukee Christian Center or Social Development Commission, both of which administer the NIP program.

REVITALIZE MILWAUKEE

Revitalize Milwaukee offers free home repairs for income-eligible seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. Revitalize Milwaukee focuses on improvements that will allow their clients to remain in their home safely and independently. Revitalize Milwaukee is also a great source for referrals to health, safety, housing and senior resources. Revitalize Milwaukee’s programs can be combined with all other housing and home improvement programs. Visit the Revitalize Milwaukee website for more information
