Coffee with City Official

Join us for the first Coffee with City Officials of 2025. Come and meet your Department of Neighborhood Services Commissioner, Jezamil Arroyo-Vega. She was appointed Commissioner of DNS by Mayor Cavalier Johnson in 2024, becoming the first Latina to hold this position. In her role, she leads a team of 230 individuals dedicated to supporting neighborhood development and maintenance by ensuring building safety and enforcing codes throughout the city. At this event you will learn more about the Department of Neighborhood Services, the Commissioner’s role, and how you can work together to strengthen your community. 

Bio: Señora Arroyo-Vega was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where she started shaping her architectural and construction career. She applies creative thinking to problem-solving situations while nurturing cross-sector alliances. As a recognition of her record of leadership and work ethic fostering integrity and collaboration, Arroyo-Vega was named one of Milwaukee’s “Forty Under 40” in 2019 after she joined the City of Milwaukee’s Department of Neighborhood Services (DNS) as a building inspector. Her dedication led her to serve as Assistant Director of Architecture and Construction at the Illinois HDA in 2020. She later returned to DNS as the Building Construction Inspection Manager, focusing on safety and code enforcement. In 2024, Mayor Cavalier Johnson appointed Arroyo-Vega as the Commissioner of DNS, making her the first Latina to hold this position. She now leads a team of 230 individuals dedicated to supporting the development and maintenance of a safe and healthy Milwaukee by ensuring building safety and enforcing codes for city-wide projects, ranging from home improvements to significant projects transforming Milwaukee’s built environment.
